ANNAPOLIS: FAILURE IN THE MAKING
As far as the causal roots of terrorism in the Middle East (and beyond) are concerned, the central issue is the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. The United States government is trying once again to push the Israelis and the Palestinians towards peace. However, as the lead article in this month’s Islamism Digest argues, this latest American-led effort will fail just as badly as previous ones. In fact the conditions for failure are more apparent and acute now than they were back in 2003 and 2000. Not only has the divide between Israelis and Palestinians grown wider but the Palestinian side is effectively divided into two camps, with little sign or hope for reconciliation. The Americans must share much of the blame for making Middle East peace considerably harder to achieve by pursuing misguided and short-term policies, the isolation of Hamas being the
biggest mistake of all.
AMERICAN HYPOCRISY IN THE WAR ON TERROR: PAUL SHELDON FOOTE EXPLAINS
In a wide-ranging interview with Islamism Digest, the professor of accounting at California State University and commentator on Middle Eastern affairs explains the reasons behind America’s strategic defeat in the so-called War on terrorism. According to Sheldon Foote, reversing this process requires the relinquishing of double-standards in favour of a more balanced approach. This is particularly the case with the United States’ policy towards Iran, where the American government, according to Sheldon Foote, is actively aiding terrorist enemies of the Islamic Republic.
JEWS AGAINST ISRAELI TERRORISM: RABBI WEISS SPEAKS OUT
In this revealing and passionate interview with Islamism Digest, Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, a leading member of the anti-Zionist Neturei Karta International Order, condemns the State of Israel (and its Zionist forerunners) for systematic and persistent terrorism against the Palestinian nation since the early 1920s. In response to tough questions on prospects for Middle East peace, Rabbi Weiss contends that peace in the Middle East will only be achieved once the State of Israel has been dismantled. “The power of God is infinitely greater than the power of politicians” argues Rabbi Weiss who urges Israeli leaders to exercise humility and acquiesce to a peaceful process leading to the progressive dismantlement of the State of Israel.
AMERICAN MUSLIMS AND THE WAR ON TERROR: AN INTERVIEW WITH MOHSIN KHALED
This Egyptian-American banker and financier talks about the idiosyncrasies of the Muslim communities in the United States, claiming that their integration owes more to the industriousness of American Muslims than any enlightened policies or goodwill by successive American governments. Moreover, Khaled talks at length about the strength of the pro-Israel lobby in the United States, claiming that this is the biggest obstacle in the way of addressing Palestinian grievances.
