Six years after the American-led military intervention in Afghanistan, the country is more unstable and dangerous than at any time since the ouster of the Taliban regime in late 2001. As the situation worsens, more and more stake-holders in the new Afghanistan are beginning to speak out against Western policy. The new Afghan media – which has been largely loyal to the Americans in Afghanistan – is beginning to speak out against the abuses and failures of the West. This development does not bode well for Washington, not least because dominating the “propaganda war” in Afghanistan is a central plank of its “long war” strategy.
