Six years after the 9/11 attacks on the United States, there is every indication that the Americans are determined to forge ahead with the policies that were devised in the aftermath of the attacks. There is also every indication that widespread American interference in the Muslim world (and Muslim communities in the West) will continue, as evidenced by the semantic shift from the ‘War on Terror’ to the ‘Long War’. Moreover, by drawing comparisons between the ‘Long War’ and the ‘Cold War’, American strategic planners are hinting at a predetermined outcome.
